If you hold Brazilian government bonds, farm stocks or Petrobras shares, one question matters most. Will the next government be able to pass its plans? Lula da Silva has won Brazil’s presidential runoff after trailing in the first round. The margin was narrow.

Brazil’s 2026 election results show Lula won the runoff with 51.79% of the vote. Opposition candidate Flávio Bolsonaro took 48.21%. The official result comes from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The gap was under 3.6 percentage points. Lula received 64,256,232 votes and Flávio Bolsonaro received 59,826,041, a lead of about 4.4 million votes. Lula was elected to a fourth term. In the first round, Lula had 45.16% against Flávio’s 47.03%.

The PL, the Liberal Party, holds 121 of 513 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

For investors, two questions are open: how the government’s fiscal plans fare in Congress, and how Petrobras handles dividends.

Lula’s win closes a race that trailed after the first round.
