She’s Alive, the company managing Dolly Parton’s estate following her death on August 25, 2026, has filed a lawsuit and obtained a temporary restraining order against her nephew Bryan Seaver, her former head of security. Court filings in Davidson County Chancery Court in Nashville allege Seaver installed barbed wire, posted “no trespassing” signs, and wrapped yellow caution tape around his property to obstruct process servers attempting to deliver legal documents, and that hostile written communications threatening the estate preceded the legal action.

She’s Alive filed the complaint against Seaver and his company, Squadron Augmented Protection Services, on September 22, 2026, in Davidson County Chancery Court in Nashville. Chancellor I’Ashea Myles granted the TRO the same day. The court’s evasion filing was submitted on October 5; the judge extended the TRO on October 6 and set the next hearing for October 20, when the estate will seek a temporary injunction. The order requires Seaver and his security company to stay at least 1,000 feet away from any person or entity with a business relationship with She’s Alive. Estate manager Danny Nozell oversees She’s Alive, which manages Parton’s business interests.

A temporary restraining order is short-term court action. It holds specific conduct frozen while the underlying legal dispute proceeds to a full hearing — it does not decide who owns any asset or whether Seaver has valid claims. The 1,000-foot restraint from She’s Alive employees, attorneys, and business partners is the operative restriction while the order remains in force, pending the October 20 hearing.

What the Case Is Actually About

She’s Alive alleged in court filings that Seaver engaged in “an obscene, deliberate and escalating campaign of threats” against Parton’s estate, threatening attorneys, business partners, and employees, and at one point allegedly warned he could “destroy the entire brand” unless he was paid. The estate fired Seaver as head of security before filing the complaint.

Professional managers appointed to run major estates — rather than family members — are common in high-value entertainment succession planning. Parton’s business legacy extended beyond entertainment, including a philanthropic record spanning books, education and medical research. Extended family members who expected a role in management because of their personal relationship sometimes challenge those arrangements through legal or other means. Whether Seaver has valid claims or none is a matter for the court, not for the filings alone.

The dispute also comes as public institutions continue debating how Parton’s name and legacy should be recognized, including a proposal connected to Nashville’s airport. Those public honors are separate from the legal authority to manage her estate.

Temporary restraining orders are followed by a formal hearing at which both parties present evidence. The October 20 hearing will determine whether the court converts the TRO into a longer-lasting temporary injunction.

Can a temporary restraining order decide an inheritance dispute?

No. A TRO is interim relief designed to preserve the existing situation while a court process plays out. It prevents specific actions in the short term but does not adjudicate ownership, inheritance rights, or the merits of either party’s claims. Those require a full hearing, evidentiary review, and a judge’s ruling.

The Davidson County Chancery Court hearing on October 20 is the next scheduled procedural event in this case. Check back for updates on the hearing outcome and any response filed by Seaver’s legal team.
