Chocolate Recalled Across Britain Over Undeclared Milk and Soya Allergens – Do Not Eat

British consumers have been warned not to consume several chocolate products due to undeclared allergens that pose serious health risks for people with milk and soya allergies, prompting urgent recall actions across major retailers.

Bon Bons Wholesale Ltd issued a recall in July 2026 affecting chocolate products shaped like ladybirds and hearts sold in retail locations across the country. The products—Medium Coloured Ladybirds, Small Red Ladybirds, and Large Red Hearts—contain milk and soya but do not display these allergens on packaging labels, creating significant risk for allergic consumers.

The Food Standards Agency issued a “do not eat” alert for the affected products, directing consumers who purchased them to return items to retail locations for full refunds rather than consuming them. The failure to properly declare known allergens represents a critical food safety violation that violates labeling requirements designed to protect vulnerable populations.

Additional chocolate recalls were issued for other products with similar problems. Millennium Peanuts Caramel Milk Chocolate sold at B&M and Home Bargains stores contained undeclared allergens including milk, peanuts, and soya. Seggiano recalled nougat products because they contain soya lecithin or milk and soya lecithin without adequate label notification.

Proper allergen labeling is essential for consumer safety. People with milk allergies can experience reactions ranging from mild digestive upset to severe anaphylaxis requiring emergency medical intervention. Soya allergies similarly carry risks that vary considerably depending on individual sensitivity levels, with about 6 percent of adults and 1 in 13 children having food allergies.

The recalls highlight ongoing food industry compliance challenges regarding ingredient transparency. Manufacturing errors, mislabeling, or inadequate quality control processes can result in dangerous discrepancies between actual product contents and packaging labels. These recalls underscore the importance of robust food safety systems and manufacturer accountability for accurately communicating product information to consumers.
