The aftermath of Reading and Leeds Festival 2021 is literally trashy. Festival-goers leave the venue completely trashed, and this behavior is repetitive at every Reading festival and many others in the UK. Similar repercussions are seen at Glastonbury Festival, Liverpool International Music Festival, Creamfields Festival, and many more, all witnessing similar patterns in garbage disposal. The cleanup drive at Glastonbury Festival cost nearly 785,000 Euros in 2017.

Even events like Euro 2020 contribute to this issue, as London’s streets were filled with all sorts of garbage in the aftermath by fans. Europe is the second-biggest plastic waste producer, exporting about 2/3 of its plastic waste to underdeveloped countries.

According to HMRC, in September 2020, the UK shipped 7,133 metric tonnes of waste to non-OECD countries. Activists demand an environment bill to tackle the global plastic waste crisis, emphasizing the need to sensitize young Britons about waste disposal and urging lawmakers to take responsibility for the environment.
