North Odisha Flood Situation Grim as IMD Forecasts More Rain Till August 18

Flood Situation Worsens

The flood situation in North Odisha remained grim on Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rains in the region till August 18. The Baitarani and several other rivers are flowing above the danger mark, submerging villages and disrupting normal life.

Rescue operations are underway in multiple districts, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams deployed in the worst-affected areas. Thousands of people have been evacuated to relief camps as the waters continue to rise. This is the second major flood to hit India this month, following the devastating Assam floods.

IMD Forecast

The IMD has issued a red alert for several districts in North Odisha, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days. The forecast has raised concerns about further flooding in low-lying areas already submerged by the rising waters.

Local administration officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to move to higher ground and cooperate with rescue teams. The state government has set up control rooms in all affected districts to coordinate relief and rescue operations. The impact of climate change on extreme weather events like floods is becoming increasingly apparent.
