Makita U.S.A. has issued a recall for approximately 62,927 professional cordless grease guns and certain grease gun hoses because of a safety risk. The recall, announced on September 4, 2025, comes after reports that the flexible hoses can develop holes that allow grease to spray out during use, potentially causing cuts to users.

The Consumer Safety Commission (CPSC) reports five people have suffered laceration injuries from these failing hoses worldwide. While all reported injuries occurred outside the United States, Makita is taking action to prevent similar incidents here.

“The flexible grease gun hose can develop a hole allowing grease to be ejected while using the grease gun, posing a laceration hazard,” stated the official recall notice.

The recall covers three specific cordless grease gun models – XPG01S1, XPG01SR1, and XPG01Z – along with four hose models: 191A79-9, 191A80-4, 191W58-9, and 191W59-7. All affected hoses have spring ends, a visible feature that helps identify recalled products.

Consumers can locate model numbers on the manufacturer label on the right side of the grease gun. Serial numbers, which are also included in the recall, are found on the battery mounting port of the grease gun.

Professional mechanics, contractors, and DIY enthusiasts who regularly use grease guns should take this recall seriously. These tools typically apply lubricating grease to machinery parts under high pressure, which explains why a failing hose could cause injuries

The recall is being handled in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Protection Commission, which has assigned the case recall number 25-455. For safety-conscious professionals who rely on these tools, promptly checking model numbers and arranging for replacement parts will ensure their workshop remains both productive and safe.
