Kia has unveiled the PV7, the second vehicle in its commercial PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle) lineup, targeting fleet operators seeking an electric alternative to gas vans. The PV7 offers seating for up to nine passengers in global-market versions, with up to 11 occupants available in the Korean market configuration. The Long Range Cargo variant is reported to offer more than 460 kilometers (285+ miles) on a single charge. Two battery options and an ultra-fast charging architecture address one of electric fleet logistics’ key challenges: operational downtime.

The vehicle comes in Passenger and Cargo versions, allowing operators to choose configurations based on fleet needs. Two battery options—71.5 kWh and 96.2 kWh—offer flexibility between range and cost. The 460km-plus range figure applies to the Long Range Cargo configuration under WLTP testing.

The PV7 is built on Kia’s E-GMP.S platform, which supports 800V fast charging. This architecture allows a 10%–80% charge in approximately 25 minutes, a meaningful capability for commercial fleets that need to minimize charging downtime between runs. For business owners, the range and fast-charging architecture make the PV7 a viable candidate for regional logistics operations. With a nine-seat global configuration (11 in Korea), it also serves large-group transport needs.

Market Position and Competition

The PV7 sits above Kia’s smaller PV5 in the lineup, occupying a segment between standard passenger vans and dedicated commercial vehicles. The nine-seat global configuration distinguishes it from most passenger EVs while the cargo version targets logistics operators. The vehicle is expected to launch in 2027 in select markets, with India availability and pricing to be confirmed by Kia.

The Charging Reality

The E-GMP.S architecture and approximately 25-minute fast charging represent a practical solution to fleet adoption’s core problem: operational downtime. A fleet van that can charge between routes stays productive. The PV7 supports up to 350kW DC charging to achieve the fast-charge result, which requires access to a compatible high-power charger.

Fleet Considerations

For commercial operators, the PV7’s range and multi-configuration design enable several use cases: regional logistics, passenger transport, and shuttle services. Specific fuel cost comparisons versus gas vans will depend on local electricity and fuel prices, vehicle utilization patterns, and applicable incentive programs in each market.
