Big news from the trucking world! Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is rolling out its electric Freightliner eM2 from the Portland assembly line. This isn’t just about trucking; it’s DTNA’s bold step towards a cleaner, greener future.

The eM2 is all about efficient deliveries. It’s part of Daimler Truck’s global electric fleet, which now boasts ten electric vehicles. Rakesh Aneja, the eMobility chief at DTNA, said, “The start of production for this versatile truck marks another important milestone on our journey to a zero-emissions product line.” He’s stoked about the positive feedback and believes the eM2 is set to impress.

Who’s getting the first set of keys? In the U.S., Ferguson, Hogan Truck Leasing, Penske, PITT OHIO, Ryder, TITAN Freight Systems, and Velocity Truck Rental & Leasing are on the list. Up north in Canada, Brossard Leasing and Day & Ross are leading the charge.

Here’s a bit of truck talk: The eM2 is built on the trusty Freightliner M2 106 Plus chassis. It’s the younger sibling to the electric Freightliner eCascadia launched last year. And guess what? The eCascadia is making waves in the Class 8 market, as per the latest Polk data.

Under the hood, the eM2 packs a punch with the Detroit ePowertrain. It’s got electric motors paired with a 2-speed transmission right on the axles, maximizing efficiency. Depending on the battery pack, the eM2 has two variants. The class 6 model offers 190 horsepower, a 194 kWh battery, and covers 180 miles on a full charge. The beefier class 7 version cranks out 255 horsepower with its 291 kWh battery and goes up to 250 miles.

Safety? DTNA’s got it covered. The eM2 comes with battery protection and the Detroit Assurance safety suite. It’s loaded with features like Active Brake Assist 5, Tailgate Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, and more. Plus, with Detroit Connect, fleet managers can keep an eye on battery stats and optimize routes on the go.

A bit about the folks behind the wheel: Daimler Truck North America, part of the Daimler Truck Holding AG family, has been at the forefront of trucking for 80 years. Freightliner, a DTNA brand, is a household name in the medium and heavy-duty truck segment.

The eM2’s launch is a game-changer. As the world shifts gears towards sustainability, the eM2 could be DTNA’s ticket to a cleaner road ahead. Safe travels!
