Nandini Milk Price Rises ₹8 From November 1: What Karnataka Buyers Will Pay

For most Karnataka households, the morning packet of Nandini milk is one purchase that never gets skipped. From 1 November, that packet is set to cost more.

Karnataka has approved an ₹8-per-litre increase in Nandini milk prices, effective 1 November, according to reports on a state Cabinet decision attributed to Minister Krishna Byre Gowda. Toned milk, the variant many families buy daily, is reported to rise from ₹46 to ₹54 per litre.

Aaj Tak reported how the ₹8 will be divided: ₹7 for milk producers and ₹1 for the cooperatives. Karmactive has not been able to locate the official Cabinet order or a Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) notice. The details here rest on media reports and the minister’s reported announcement, and we will update this article once a primary document is available.

When will Nandini milk become costlier? On 1 November, as reported. Why is it rising? The stated purpose is government support for milk producers, who are reported to receive most of the increase. How much? ₹8 a litre, taking toned milk to ₹54.

Here is what that means at home. A household buying 1 litre a day would pay ₹8 more daily, or ₹240 more over a 30-day month. The monthly milk bill would move from ₹1,380 to ₹1,620. Families buying half a litre a day would pay about ₹120 more. This is an illustration based on the reported prices, not a forecast of anyone’s actual spending.

The reported split matters. Of the ₹8, ₹7 is said to go to producers, which is nearly 88 per cent of the rise. Only ₹1 is reported to go to the cooperatives that collect, process and sell the milk. If that holds, the increase is mainly a transfer to dairy farmers rather than extra margin for the sellers. Pricing like this sits where two pressures meet: what farmers receive for their milk, and what households can afford to pay. Our food inflation coverage tracks how such changes show up in monthly household budgets, and our dairy and agriculture reporting follows the supply side.

Several points are still unclear from the reports. We have not seen confirmation of how other Nandini variants, such as full cream or homogenised milk, will be priced. Nor is it known whether curd, butter or ghee prices will change alongside milk.

Buyers should check the revised KMF price list, which should be displayed at outlets and booths, before the new rate applies on 1 November. Any change to curd, butter or ghee prices will be added here once KMF or the state publishes it.
