OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra AI Works for Days on Complex Projects With Multiple Agents

Banked computing clusters manage the distributed workloads required when multi-agent frameworks execute independent subtasks over multi-day operational spans. Running sixteen coordinated sub-agents simultaneously accelerates complex engineering workflows, yet expanding computational autonomy directly intensifies the institutional challenge of verifying whether background reasoning paths remain transparent to human oversight. OpenAI has announced GPT-6 Astra, representing a significant shift in how AI systems approach long-term work. Unlike previous models that answer one question at a time, Astra is designed around persistent autonomous agents and multi-day project execution.

OpenAI has demonstrated Astra handling projects in game development and professional workflows including legal and business tasks. The model can break down large projects into smaller components and maintain progress across multiple work sessions while coordinating specialized agents simultaneously.

OpenAI says Astra meets the Critical cybersecurity capability threshold under its Preparedness Framework, which means the system has advanced capabilities that require careful oversight. OpenAI has emphasized the importance of safety and monitoring as these models become more capable, and it said Astra would become available soon.
