A section of the grandstand at Rogers Stadium in Toronto collapsed during a powerful thunderstorm that swept through the city on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Rogers Stadium is a 50,000-capacity temporary outdoor music venue built on the former Downsview Airport lands. It’s operated by Live Nation Canada. Photos and video shared on social media showed a portion of the seating structure had come down, displacing thousands of seats, with other areas of the venue showing torn roof coverings and collapsed framing.
Live Nation Canada issued a statement confirming the damage and confirming that nobody was hurt: “As a result of yesterday’s extreme weather, Rogers Stadium sustained significant damage. As always, the safety of our employees and on-site contractors is our top priority. Fortunately, no one was injured during the extreme weather event. We are currently assessing the extent of the damage and will provide further information as it becomes available.”
The storm was part of a wider weather event that moved across southern Ontario on the same day. Emergency alerts were issued across the region. The storm caused flooding, downed power lines, and power outages in multiple areas of Toronto and the surrounding area.
Live Nation said engineering crews were on site conducting structural safety assessments in preparation for upcoming scheduled concert dates. The full scope of damage and the timeline for repairs had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
Rogers Stadium is a relatively new addition to Toronto’s entertainment landscape and had already been the subject of attention as a large-capacity temporary outdoor structure. The storm damage adds a new layer of scrutiny to its design and durability under severe weather conditions.
