Werner Recalls 122K Ladders: 14 Injuries From Locking Failures

Werner has recalled more than 122,000 Multi-Max Pro ladders due to a dangerous defect that has already led to injuries. The recall affects 20-foot and 24-foot models sold exclusively at Home Depot between November 2021 and February 2024.

The problem involves the ladder’s locking mechanism, which can jam and fail to lock properly. This creates a serious fall risk for anyone using the ladder. Werner has already received 18 reports of falls resulting in 14 injuries, including bruising, cuts, head injuries, and bone fractures to the wrist, leg, and ribs.

The affected ladders are silver with a blue top and a blue label on the side rail. The label shows the Werner logo in an oval next to the words “MULTI MAX PRO” along with the model number – either ALMP-20IAA or ALMP-24IAA. These ladders also have a long black rope in the back section.

If you own one of these ladders, you should stop using it immediately. To get a full refund, you need to register at Werner’s recall website (wernerco.com/recalls) for instructions on how to dispose of the ladder properly. Once you’ve completed the disposal process and provided proof, Werner will send you a refund check.

The ladders sold for between $200 and $281, and consumers will receive a full refund of their purchase price. This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission and is listed under recall number 25-431. It has been designated as a “Fast Track” recall, which means Werner moved quickly to address the safety issue.

Importantly, the recall does not include the shorter Multi-Max Pro ladders with model numbers ALMP-16IAA and ALMP-18IAA. These models have a different design and are not affected by the locking mechanism problem.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission reminds the public that it’s illegal to sell or distribute recalled products, including through resale markets or donation.
