Coca-Cola has issued a recall for Topo Chico Mineral Water after finding potential contamination with Pseudomonas bacteria in certain bottles. The recall affects products sold across five states: Arizona, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas.
The specific products being recalled are 16.9-ounce (500 mL) glass bottles of Topo Chico Mineral Water sold in 18-packs with lot code #13A2541. Some reports also mention additional lot codes #11A2543 and #12A2543. These products were purchased between May 20 and May 29, 2025, at approximately 40 retail locations, including Costco and Sam’s Club stores.
Pseudomonas bacteria occur naturally in water sources, including mineral water. For most healthy people, the health risk from this contamination is “very low,” according to Coca-Cola. However, people with weakened immune systems could face more serious problems.
Those at higher risk include people using breathing machines, catheters, or those with open wounds. Individuals with conditions like lupus, cancer, HIV, diabetes, liver disease, and pregnant women should also take extra caution.
Symptoms of Pseudomonas infection can range from mild to severe. Common symptoms include fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, and fatigue. The infection can affect different parts of the body, causing earaches, eye irritation, skin rashes, respiratory issues, or urinary tract infections. In severe cases, it can lead to pneumonia or bloodstream infections.
