Natural Grocers recalled its store-brand organic mung beans across 22 states after customers found sharp glass fragments in the bags—and if you decanted the beans into a pantry jar months ago and threw away the packaging, you may not know your stash is affected.

Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets, Inc. of Lakewood, Colorado—the parent company of Natural Grocers—announced the voluntary recall on October 22, 2026, following customer complaints about glass fragments. The recalled product is Natural Grocers Brand Bulk Organic Mung Beans, sold in 2-pound clear plastic bags with UPC 000080112600. Five pack dates are affected, printed on the lower-left corner of the label: 26-160, 26-173, 26-196, 26-224, and 26-258. These bags began shipping on June 10, 2026. The FDA notice states the affected lots may have shipped to stores across 22 states: AR, AZ, CO, IA, ID, KS, LA, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OK, OR, SD, TX, UT, WA, WI, and WY. No illnesses or injuries had been reported at the time of the recall notice.

If you bought a 2-pound clear plastic bag of Natural Grocers Brand Organic Mung Beans (UPC 000080112600) any time after June 10, 2026, check the lower-left corner of the label for pack dates 26-160, 26-173, 26-196, 26-224, or 26-258. If you already decanted the beans into a pantry jar and discarded the bag, discontinue use and discard or return the beans—if you cannot confirm the beans came from an unaffected bag, the safest step is not to use them. The FDA’s risk warning for this type of contamination includes tooth damage, laceration of the mouth and throat, and intestinal perforation. Return the sealed bag to any Natural Grocers location for a full refund or credit. For questions, call 303-226-1434 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. MT) or email media@naturalgrocers.com.

Why Glass Recalls Have Become a 2026 Food Safety Pattern

The Natural Grocers mung beans recall is part of a wider year of foreign-material contamination across dry and packaged goods. Fast Company has tracked glass and hard plastic fragment recalls from multiple products in 2026. The 2026 food recall tracker at Karmactive covers the full glass-contamination pattern if you want to cross-check other pantry staples.

The five affected pack dates span a range from early June through mid-September 2026. Dry mung beans are a long-shelf-life staple that many health-conscious shoppers buy in bulk and decant into airtight pantry jars, which is precisely why the recall is asking people to check jars even if the original bag is gone.
