Ford Australia has recalled 701 units of the 2021 Ford Everest SUV due to a potentially dangerous tow bar hitch defect. The recall, identified as REC-006429 and Campaign 25S84, was officially published on September 11, 2025.
The problem stems from a manufacturing defect where the tow bar hitch may not have been welded to the required specifications. This creates a serious risk that the hitch could detach from the vehicle while driving, posing a significant hazard to other road users and bystanders.
Ford notes in its recall notice that if safety chains are correctly fitted while towing a caravan or trailer, the trailer would remain attached to the vehicle even if the hitch detaches. However, this doesn’t eliminate the danger, as a loose tow bar hitch component can still become a dangerous projectile on the road.
“If the tow bar hitch detaches from the vehicle whilst towing, it could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to other road users and bystanders,” Ford states in its recall notice.
