Orient Electric’s Ecotech Volt Fan Runs 10 Hours On Battery, No Inverter Needed

Orient Electric has launched the Ecotech Volt, a ceiling fan with a built-in rechargeable battery that keeps running after a power cut. The company says the fan runs for up to 10 hours on battery without an inverter or external power supply, a useful feature during the monsoon when outages are frequent.

The fan uses a 28-watt BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) motor. Orient Electric claims this consumes up to 50 per cent less electricity than a traditional induction ceiling fan. A double ball-bearing assembly is included for durability. The fan works across a wide voltage range of 120 volts to 280 volts, so it can handle the voltage fluctuations common in many areas during the rainy season.

The built-in battery keeps about 80 per cent of its capacity even after 500 charge cycles, according to the company. When power fails, the fan switches to battery mode and continues to run. Orient Electric is positioning it as a standalone, energy-efficient cooling option for homes that face repeated cuts where installing an inverter is not practical.

The Ecotech Volt is offered in Glacier Grey and White colour options. Its maximum retail price is ₹6,799, but under the company’s Freedom Sale it is available for ₹4,594 through Amazon.in and other retailers. The fan carries a three-year warranty, while the integrated battery has a separate one-year warranty.

For context, ordinary induction ceiling fans typically cost between ₹1,500 and ₹2,500, while battery-backed BLDC fans generally fall in the ₹4,500 to ₹6,500 range. The higher price of a battery model is offset by the backup it provides during outages and the lower running power it draws compared with a conventional fan.

BLDC technology replaces the brushes of an older induction motor with an electronic controller and permanent magnets, cutting the friction and heat loss that waste energy. The result is a fan that uses less electricity while delivering the same cooling. For households dealing with irregular supply, a fan that keeps working through a blackout removes the need to rely on a separate backup system.
