Ventana Surfboards and Supplies based in Santa Cruz, California, create hollow & reclaimed wooden surfboards; bodysurfing hand panels, eco-friendly and sustainable surf supplies.

Surfboards made out of reclaimed wood are very unconventional and enthralling. Ventana Surfboards & Supplies strive to be environmentally responsible. Their boards are high performance and surfable works of art.

Their art concepts are mostly based on nature and the ocean. These surfboards are stylish, unique & more sustainable.

They donate at least 5% of profits to the ocean conservation efforts of organizations including Save Our Shores, Surf rider Foundation Santa Cruz, Save the Waves Coalition, and many more.

The Surfrider Foundation reports that traditional foam surfboards contribute significantly to microplastic pollution in oceans as they degrade over time. Wooden surfboard alternatives offer biodegradable options that reduce environmental impact.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the surf industry generates approximately 225 tons of foam waste annually from board manufacturing processes. Companies like Ventana Surfboards address this through reclaimed wood utilization and non-toxic epoxy resins in construction.

Sustainable surf organizations note that wooden surfboards, while heavier than foam counterparts, offer longevity exceeding 50 years compared to 5-10 years for traditional foam boards, reducing replacement frequency and waste generation.

Materials scientists from the University of California report that reclaimed redwood and cedar possess natural water-resistant properties suitable for marine applications, eliminating need for synthetic protective coatings that contribute to ocean pollution.

Ventana Surfboards and Supplies, founded in 2016, combines traditional woodworking techniques with modern sustainable practices in their Santa Cruz workshop. Their reclaimed redwood and cedar surfboards are finished with plant-based epoxy resins, eliminating harmful volatile organic compounds from the production process entirely.
