Walmart shoppers need to check their kitchens as four major food recalls have hit stores nationwide since March 2025. From frozen dinners to snack foods, these safety alerts touch products many of us buy regularly.
Just this month, on May 2, more than 4,500 cases of Yellowstone baked beans came off store shelves. The problem? These 15-ounce cans of Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans contained soy that wasn’t mentioned on the label. This might not sound serious to most people, but for someone with a soy allergy, eating these beans could send them to the hospital.
The safety concerns don’t stop there. In April, Walmart pulled packages of Marketside Celery Sticks after tests found they might contain harmful bacteria called Listeria. If you bought these celery sticks and put them in your freezer thinking they’d last longer, don’t eat them – throw them away right now. This bacteria can make anyone sick, but it’s especially dangerous for pregnant women, older adults, young children, and people who get sick easily.
March saw two more important recalls. Frito-Lay discovered some of their plain yellow corn tortilla chip bags actually contained nacho cheese chips instead. While mixing up chip flavors might seem like a small mistake, it puts people with milk allergies at risk since they wouldn’t know the chips contain dairy.
Also in March, Nestlé USA found something that shouldn’t be in any food – wood-like material in some frozen meals. They pulled several types of Lean Cuisine meals and STOUFFER’S Party Size Chicken Lasagna from freezers. One person already reported nearly choking on this foreign material.
The good news? Walmart moves fast when these problems come up. They work swiftly to block affected items and remove them from stores. This matters because Walmart serves nearly every community in America – 95 out of 100 Americans shop there.
What does this mean for your next shopping trip? First, don’t panic. These recalls show that safety monitoring systems are working – catching problems before they can affect more people. If you have any of these products at home, you can bring them back to any Walmart store. They’ll give you your money back or replace the item, even if you’ve opened the package.

Each of these recalls tells us something important about our food safety system. When companies find problems – whether it’s unlisted ingredients that could trigger allergies, harmful bacteria, or foreign objects in food – they must tell the public quickly. This transparency helps keep everyone safe, even though it might mean throwing away food you just bought.
While companies caught these issues before they could cause widespread harm, the recalls remind us to pay attention to food safety alerts. For the one person who reported a choking incident with the frozen meal, or for anyone with food allergies, these warnings aren’t just news – they’re vital information that could prevent a serious health issue.
These recalls might seem scary, but they’re actually signs of safety systems at work. When problems are found, companies must take action to protect public health. For shoppers, this means always having the latest information about what’s safe to eat and what isn’t.
Next time you’re unpacking groceries, take a quick look at what you bought. Check the special codes printed on packages against recall notices. And remember – if you find out something in your kitchen has been recalled, don’t take chances. Return it to the store and get your money back. It’s important to follow recall instructions to protect your health.
