Tesco has recalled its 650g Stir Fry Tikka Chicken ready meals after discovering undeclared egg and mustard in the sauce sachet. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an allergy alert for the product with a use-by date of September 7, 2025.

The supermarket giant warns that these missing allergens pose a health risk to anyone with an egg intolerance or mustard allergy. Customers are advised not to eat the product if they have these allergies.

“If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund,” states the FSA guidance. No receipt is necessary for the refund.

Egg and mustard are among the 14 major food allergens that must be clearly labeled on food products under UK law. Both can cause reactions ranging from mild to severe in sensitive individuals.

Egg allergies can trigger symptoms including swelling of the lips, eyes and face. Though egg allergies are more common in children and often outgrown by adulthood, they remain a serious concern for those affected.

Mustard allergies, while less common, can also cause significant reactions. Symptoms range from mild issues like hives and vomiting to severe allergic reactions requiring medical intervention.

The issue specifically affects the sauce sachet component of the meal, where the allergens were found but not mentioned on the product label. This highlights the particular challenge with multi-component meals, where individual elements may contain different ingredients.

Tesco has placed point-of-sale notices in all stores selling the product. These notices explain why the chicken meal is being recalled and provide instructions for customers.

The company has also contacted relevant allergy support organizations to ensure their members are informed about the potential risk. This is standard procedure for food businesses when issuing allergen-related recalls.

“No other Tesco products are affected by this recall. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused,” said a Tesco spokesperson.

This recall follows FSA protocol when food products contain undeclared allergens. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA issues an Allergy Alert and products may be withdrawn from sale or recalled from customers. In this case, a full recall has been initiated.

For people without egg or mustard allergies, there is no safety concern with the product beyond the labeling error. The recall is specifically targeted at protecting those with these particular food sensitivities.

Customers who have already consumed the product and experience symptoms should seek medical advice. Those with questions can contact Tesco directly through their customer service helpline or website at tesco.com/help/contact.

The FSA recall reference for this alert is FSA-AA-46-2025, and updates can be found on the FSA website’s allergy alerts page.
