Target has pulled more than 12,000 packages of Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies from store shelves across 20 states and Washington, D.C. due to possible wood contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified this as a Class II recall on August 4, 2025, following an initial recall notice issued by the manufacturer on July 22.

Canadian company Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp., which produces the cookies, initiated the voluntary recall after discovering potential wood fragments in the product. The recall covers 803 cases of the 10-count cookie packages, with each package weighing 13.5 oz (383g).

The affected cookies can be identified by the UPC code 85239-41250 3 and lot number 25195. The “Best By” dates vary as they are applied by retailers when the cookies are removed from the freezer.

The cookies were shipped from distribution centers in Connecticut, Maryland, and Ohio to Target stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.

The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall, which indicates “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.” Wood fragments can pose a choking hazard if consumed.

This recall comes amid several other food safety concerns in 2025, including Nestlé USA recalling some Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s ready meals due to similar wood contamination fears. Those frozen meals were produced between August 2024 and March 2025.

The pink-frosted cookies with sprinkles were sold at Target stores for $4.49 per package before the recall.
