Giant Bicycle has pulled 6,200 of its Momentum Vida E+ electric bikes off the market after discovering a serious safety flaw. The fork steerer tube – which connects the handlebars to the front wheel – can crack or break during rides, potentially causing cyclists to crash.

The problem affects Momentum Vida E+ models from 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024. These e-bikes sold for between $2,500 and $3,200 at Giant dealers across the country and online from September 2019 through May 2025.

Owners can easily check if their bike needs attention by finding the serial number on the frame (located on the left rear dropout or under the downtube). The third character is the key: bikes with “H,” “J,” or “K” need immediate fork replacement, those with “G” require dealer inspection, while “E” or “F” means the bike is safe.

The recalled bikes were available in seven colors including metallic red, pearl white, and metallic green. They came in both mid-step and low-step frames and three different sizes.

So far, Giant has received four reports of broken fork steerer tubes. Fortunately, no one has been injured. The company is providing free inspections and replacement forks at authorized dealers.

“Riders should stop using these bikes immediately,” said a company spokesperson. Anyone with an affected bike should contact their local Giant dealer right away.

For questions, bike owners can call Giant at 866-458-2555 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT, or email [email protected].

This recall highlights why e-bike components need extra strength – their heavier weight and faster speeds put more stress on parts than traditional bicycles experience.
