The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for “Prep Chef” brand pulled pork products containing undeclared allergens. The alert covers two specific items: “Prep Chef PULLED PORK WITH BBQ SAUCE” and “Prep Chef BBQ PULLED PORK & GOUDA MAC AND CHEESE BURRITO FILLING.”

Both products were prepared with Worcestershire sauce containing soy, a common allergen not listed on the product labels. The burrito filling also contains undeclared anchovies and egg whites, which are known allergens.

The affected items, produced between April 3 and July 9, 2025, bear the establishment number “EST. 46046.” The barbecue pulled pork was distributed to Hannaford grocery stores in Maine and New York, while the burrito filling went to Jacksons gas stations in Idaho.

FSIS discovered the problem during a routine label review. No recall was requested since the products are no longer available for purchase. However, consumers may still have these items in their refrigerators or freezers.

No adverse reactions have been reported, but people with allergies to fish, or eggs should not consume these products. Consumers who purchased these items should either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

Undeclared allergens are a serious food safety concern. The most common allergens—wheat, shellfish, eggs, fish, peanuts, milk, tree nuts, sesame, and soybeans—account for 90 percent of all food allergic reactions. Reactions can range from mild discomfort to life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Food safety experts recommend that if you’ve served a product with undeclared allergens, thoroughly wash with soap and water any surfaces that may have contacted the food, including plates, utensils, and countertops.
