Drinkmate has issued a nationwide recall of approximately 106,200 carbonation bottles in the United States and 5,000 in Canada after multiple reports of the bottles exploding during use, causing serious injuries.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on August 14, 2025, warning that the affected bottles pose “serious impact, laceration and hearing damage hazards to users and bystanders.”
Eight explosion incidents have been reported in the U.S., with four resulting in lacerations, impact injuries, and hearing damage. Health Canada received one additional report of a bottle shattering during use, causing bruises.
The recall specifically targets Drinkmate’s 1-liter carbonation bottles with clear polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bodies and plastic caps and bases in red, blue, white, or black. Only bottles with expiration dates between January 2026 and October 2026 are affected. These dates are printed on the side of each bottle.
Affected products were sold both individually for about $20 and as part of some Drinkmate OmniFizz starter kits priced at approximately $130. They were available online through iDrinkproducts.com, Walmart, Amazon, Target, and Home Depot from April 2023 through October 2024.
Consumers who own these bottles should immediately stop using them and follow Drinkmate’s replacement process. The company is offering free replacement bottles to affected customers.
