Jaguar Land Rover is recalling over 121,500 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs in the United States due to a serious suspension problem that could lead to crashes. This safety recall affects model years 2014-2017 and focuses on a defect that could cause drivers to suddenly lose control of their vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall after identifying a dangerous issue with the front suspension system. The problem lies in the front upper suspension knuckle joint, which can develop cracks over time. If these cracks worsen, the upper suspension arm could completely detach from the vehicle, especially during emergency maneuvers when control is most critical.
“This failure could compromise the vehicle’s controllability and increase the risk of a crash,” states the NHTSA report. The agency began investigating the issue in June 2025, initially examining 91,856 vehicles after receiving multiple reports of fractured front steering components.
The recall involves 54,720 Range Rovers and approximately 66,789 Range Rover Sport models. The defective parts were supplied by Taiwanese manufacturer SuperAlloy Industrial (SAI) and are linked to specific vehicle build dates. Certain 2014 vehicles and all 2015-2017 Range Rover Sport models built between October 1, 2014, and November 10, 2017, are included in the recall.
Interestingly, the recall originated in Canada, where authorities first noticed the problem. Transport Canada contacted Land Rover after finding the same front suspension knuckle failures in Range Rover Sport vehicles that had previously been identified in standard Range Rovers. The harsh Canadian climate, with its extreme temperature swings and road conditions, may have accelerated the problem, though the exact technical explanation remains unclear.

The fix will be provided free of charge to all affected owners. Dealers will inspect both front suspension knuckles for signs of cracking. If no cracks are found, they’ll install a special retaining bracket as a preventive measure. However, if cracks are detected, the entire knuckle assembly will need replacement.
