Hyundai Australia is calling back 18,634 i30 PD hatchbacks manufactured during 2020-2021 due to a fuel pump impeller flaw that could lead to engine stalling. This official recall, logged as REC-006422 (Campaign 51D143) on September 1, 2025, addresses a manufacturing defect where the impeller may deform under certain environmental conditions.

The potential failure mode involves the fuel pump impeller – the critical component that circulates fuel from the tank to the combustion chamber. When deformation occurs, fuel delivery gets compromised, potentially triggering an immediate loss of motive power. For motorists, this translates to a sudden engine stall situation that could pose serious safety risks.

The Vehicle Recalls register documentation states that “a sudden loss of motive power whilst driving may increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.” Hyundai Motor Company Australia has confirmed they’ll contact affected owners in writing, directing them to authorized service centers for a no-cost inspection and replacement program.

This campaign covers only i30 (PD) vehicles built in 2020–2021; other Hyundai models and years are not included in this specific recall (separate campaigns exist where applicable). A complete VIN manifest appears on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts vehicle recall database, allowing owners to cross-check their specific vehicle.

This campaign stands separate from Hyundai’s January 2025 action (REC-006244) involving 4,781 Kona N and i30 Sedan N models, which addressed a different fuel system defect related to the high-pressure fuel pump’s control valve.

For vehicle owners concerned about potential symptoms, diagnostic indicators might include unexpected power loss, illuminated malfunction indicator lamps, or irregular idle characteristics. Any such warning signs warrant immediate dealer attention.

Hyundai will inspect the fuel pump and replace the impeller free of charge at authorised dealerships. The recall campaign identifiers – REC-006422 and Campaign 51D143 – are essential reference points for affected customers seeking service.
