An Air Canada Express Dash 8 Q400 had landing gear problems at Edmonton International Airport Tuesday evening, temporarily stopping all flights. The incident happened around 7 p.m. as the plane was landing.
No injuries were reported among passengers or crew, airport officials confirmed.
Quick Response to Runway Situation
The aircraft’s front landing gear was damaged during landing, requiring immediate attention from ground crews.
“Safety is our top priority,” an Edmonton International Airport spokesperson said in a statement. “Passenger safety was never compromised.”
The closure lasted approximately 25 minutes, affecting flight operations at the airport. Flight data shows the disabled aircraft remained on the runway with damaged nose gear.
Passengers Describe the Experience
Passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft following standard emergency protocols. The cabin crew followed all safety procedures during the incident.
Emergency teams helped passengers safely reach the terminal after the landing incident.
Airport Returns to Normal
The incident caused several flights to be delayed and at least one flight to divert to Calgary – an Air Canada CRJ900 from Vancouver to Edmonton that was scheduled to continue to Yellowknife.
By 9:15 p.m., crews had removed the aircraft from the runway and normal operations resumed. Airport conditions were suitable for operations at the time of the incident.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was notified of the incident. Air Canada stated they’re cooperating with authorities and helping affected travelers with alternative arrangements.
All Edmonton International Airport flights were operating normally by Wednesday morning, though some connecting flights to Yellowknife were cancelled as a result of the incident.
