More than 56,000 Remington hair dryers sold online are being pulled from the market because they could kill or seriously injure users if they fall into water while plugged in.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on August 14, affecting Remington model D3190DCDN hair dryers that lack a crucial safety device called an immersion protection system. This missing feature means the hair dryer won’t automatically shut off if it gets wet, creating a deadly electrocution risk.
The purple hair dryers with black accents have three black buttons on the handle and “Remington” written in white letters on the side. Each unit weighs about 1.5 pounds and measures roughly 8.5 inches long by 11.6 inches high. Users can find the model number on a label located on the back of the handle.
These hair dryers were sold exclusively through online marketplaces including Walmart Marketplace, Target Marketplace, and Amazon between March 2024 and June 2025. Customers paid between $25 and $32 for each unit. The widespread online availability means thousands of people across the country could own these potentially dangerous devices without realizing the risk.
An immersion protection device works like a circuit breaker for bathroom appliances. When water touches the electrical components, this safety feature immediately cuts power to prevent electrocution. Without this protection, dropping a plugged-in hair dryer into a sink, bathtub, or any water source can send deadly electrical current through the water and into anyone touching it.
Bathrooms present unique electrical hazards because water and electricity make a lethal combination. Most people use hair dryers near sinks, bathtubs, and other water sources, making the missing safety feature especially dangerous. Even a small amount of water can conduct electricity and cause serious injury or death.
The recall affects products imported by Spectrum Brands for Empower Brands, both companies based in Middleton, Wisconsin. The hair dryers were manufactured in China and distributed through the major online retailers without the required safety features.
