Toyota has issued a major recall affecting 443,444 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid pickup trucks from 2022 through 2025. The problem centers on reverse lights that can stop working when moisture gets inside the light housing.
The defect happens because a multi-layer vent patch inside the light assembly can separate due to thermal cycling. This patch is designed to allow pressure equalization while preventing moisture from entering the electrical components. When the adhesive holding this patch deteriorates, water can enter the light assembly.
Moisture inside the reverse lights causes corrosion of the internal circuit board, connector, or wire harness. When this happens, the reverse lights can fail completely. If both reverse lights fail, drivers have reduced rear visibility during low ambient light conditions. The failure also prevents other road users from knowing when the vehicle is backing up, increasing crash risk.
Toyota reported this safety issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on May 19, 2025. The recall covers all 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 model year Tundra trucks, including both regular and hybrid versions.

What Owners Need to Do
Truck owners will receive official recall notices in the mail starting June 30, 2025. The repair is completely free and involves replacing both reverse light assemblies with improved versions. If corrosion has extended to the wire harness connector, Toyota dealers will repair that component as well at no charge.
Owners can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 using recall numbers 24TB06 and 24TA06. They can also check if their specific truck is affected by entering their Vehicle Identification Number into the NHTSA recall database online.
Additional Context
This recall follows previous quality issues with newer Tundra models. Toyota previously addressed engine-related concerns in 2024 involving manufacturing debris that could lead to loss of power.
The reverse light defect demonstrates how moisture infiltration can compromise vehicle electrical systems over time. When protective seals fail, water damage to sensitive electronic components becomes a safety concern. This recall affects a substantial number of recently manufactured Toyota trucks.
For Tundra owners, the dealer repair should resolve the reverse lighting problem and restore proper safety functionality during backing maneuvers. Regular recall status checks remain important for all vehicle owners.
