Ford Motor Company is dealing with two significant recalls that could impact drivers’ safety on the road. The larger recall affects over a million Ford and Lincoln vehicles with faulty backup cameras, while a smaller but equally concerning recall targets nearly 30,000 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks with suspension problems.
The backup camera recall covers more than 1,075,299 vehicles across multiple Ford and Lincoln models from 2021 through 2025. The issue stems from a software error in Ford’s SYNC4 infotainment system that can cause the rearview camera image to freeze, delay, or fail to display when the vehicle is in reverse. This malfunction violates federal safety standards and increases crash risk.
Ford has confirmed one minor crash resulting in property damage related to the camera issue, though no injuries have been reported. The company will provide a software update either through dealerships or over-the-air updates for compatible vehicles. Owner notification letters will be sent starting June 16, with a second letter to follow once the fix is fully available later this year.
The F-150 Lightning recall affects 29,501 electric pickup trucks from the 2024-2025 model years. These vehicles may have an improperly torqued front upper control arm ball joint nut that could loosen or detach. If this happens, drivers may experience vibration, clunking noises, or partial steering loss, significantly raising the risk of a crash.

Ford estimates only 1% of the recalled Lightning trucks actually have the defect. The problem stems from manufacturing issues at the assembly plant, where variations in the fastening tool’s alignment may have prevented proper torque being applied to the nut. Owner notifications for this recall will begin June 9, and dealers will inspect and repair affected vehicles at no cost.
These recalls come at a challenging time for Ford, which has issued 56 recalls since January 2025, following 67 recalls in 2024. The company was previously fined $165 million by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2024 for not addressing a 2020 backup camera recall promptly.

For Ford F-150 Lightning owners concerned about the suspension issue, warning signs include unusual vibration or rattling noises from the front suspension. Owners of any affected Ford or Lincoln vehicle should watch for notification letters and contact their dealership to schedule repairs once the remedy is available.
To check if your vehicle is affected by these or other recalls, you can search using your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website.
