The 2026 BMW XM is getting a major shakeup. BMW has dropped the base model, offering only the high-powered Label version with 738 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.

This American-built luxury SUV combines a 577-horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine with a 194-horsepower electric motor. The powerful pairing allows the massive vehicle to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph (or 175 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package).

On the electric side, BMW has made significant improvements. The charging system now accepts 11 kilowatts of power, up from 7.4 kilowatts in previous models. This upgrade cuts charging time for the 26-kilowatt-hour battery to about 2 hours for a full charge.

Unlike competitors such as the Lamborghini Urus, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S, and high-end Range Rover models, the XM Label offers substantial electric range alongside massive performance. This combination positions it uniquely in the ultra-luxury SUV market.

The hybrid system works by integrating the electric motor directly into the eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup provides instant torque when accelerating, filling any power gaps while the twin turbos spool up. The result is smooth, linear power delivery despite the vehicle’s considerable size and weight.

BMW has also added new customization options. Buyers can choose a new Frozen Tanzanite Blue exterior paint and select from three new interior leather packages including Night Blue with Vintage Coffee accents and Silverstone with black accents. The standard 23-inch wheels (with optional 22-inch wheels) and new Welcome Light Animation enhance its bold appearance.

Production of the 2026 BMW XM Label will begin this August at BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. While pricing hasn’t been announced, the current 2025 model starts at $186,175, suggesting a similar or slightly higher price point for 2026.

The changes reflect BMW’s strategy to focus on high-performance electrified vehicles. By offering only the most powerful version of the XM, BMW is positioning this massive hybrid SUV as a flagship model aimed at wealthy buyers in the USA, China, and Middle East markets who want both power and some electric capability.

For those concerned about efficiency, the plug-in hybrid system offers a practical compromise – the ability to drive emissions-free for short trips while having massive power available when needed. The improved charging speed makes the electric capability more usable in daily life.

The 2026 XM Label shows how BMW is blending traditional performance with new electrification technology, creating vehicles that maintain driving excitement while beginning the transition away from pure gasoline power.
