A morning walk along Delhi's Yamuna river just uncovered something no one has seen in 80 years - an Indian grey wolf has returned to the capital!

Wildlife enthusiast Hemant Garg captured photos of the mysterious animal near Palla village on May 15. "It had a dark grey coat and moved unlike any dog I've seen," he said.

What makes this discovery so remarkable? The last confirmed wolf sighting in Delhi was back in the 1940s - that's eight decades ago!

Wildlife experts can't agree if it's a pure wolf or a wolf-dog hybrid. That tail curve has them puzzled...

"Without genetic testing, we can't be certain," says wildlife scientist Y.V. Jhala. The animal's dark coloration hints at possible dog ancestry.

But Wildlife Institute's Bilal Habib believes it's definitely a young wolf. "Its coat pattern and sharp teeth are typical of subadult wolves about a year old."

How did it get to Delhi? Experts think it traveled along the Yamuna river from distant wildlife areas, showing how important river corridors are for animal movement.

With only 2,000-3,000 Indian grey wolves left in the country, each sighting matters. The species faces shrinking habitats and conflicts with humans.
