Gen V Challenges Rishi Sunak to go Plant-Based for 1 Million Charitable Donation

Gen V wrote an open letter to the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to adopt a plant-based diet for one month in exchange for donating 1 million pounds to the charity of his choice.

Gen V or Generation Vegan works on promoting healthier and more sustainable lifestyles, since healthy food is basic human rights.

They work with different communities including displaced people, children, and people fighting for labor rights by educating them about the nutritional value of plant-based meals.

Naomi Hallum, CEO of Gen V said the UK is one of the world’s most nature-depleting countries. A plant-based diet will require only one-sixth of the total land which will leave enough to resort for natural restoration.

Plant-based agriculture will also reduce emissions of food-related Green House Gases (GHG). According to researchers, a plant-based diet can reduce almost 70% of GHG emissions.

The UK should become a pioneer in the world in alternate forms of protein production. Since the UK holds an approximately 1 billion pound market for plant-based food alternatives.

The government-commissioned National Food Strategy also wanted to invest 125 million pounds in sustainable protein start-up companies.

According to a study by EPIC-Oxford 37% of people who consumed lesser amounts of meat were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, and cancer.

The UK’s dairy and meat industries are cruel and ruthless towards animals. Almost 10-20% of dairy cows are killed when they are still pregnant. Male chicks are killed right after a few hours or days of birth.

Gen V wanted the prime minister to understand the ruthlessness of the meat industry and moreover its severe environmental impact.
