Uniting Land and Sea Protection in South Georgia for Conservation Synergy: Cherishing the Land

The Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (GSGSSI) recently announced its plan to establish Terrestrial Protected Areas. These areas will include the entire land area of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. This initiative will complement the region’s already established Marine Protected Area, which was implemented in 2012. This initiative aims to strengthen the existing conservation efforts and to ensure responsible management of the island’s landmass.
