    The Delhi based think tank the Centre for Policy R The Delhi based think tank the Centre for Policy Research (@cpr_india) had commissioned a study on the State Pollution Control Boards( SPCBs) in IGP ( Indo-Gangetic Plain ) region. The authors of this Study were : Shibani Ghosh ,Sharon Mathew, Arunesh Karkun, Pranav Dhavan & Bhargav Krishna. Their report was released by the CPR in October 2022. Many shortcomings and deeply conflicting data have come up from the study. One of them being, 53% of SPCB members are representing the polluters in the IGP region in India. The CPR report’ s key takeaways are as follows: Representation in the Boards largely comprises Govt Departments, Public Sector Units & other industry representatives. There is limited representation for civil society including those who are working on environmental & carbon issues, academia, public health & the medical community. The statutory requirement of having at least two board members who have knowledge & experience in air quality is not met by the Boards. The 3 boards which claimed that two members had the necessary qualifications have not provided any evidence to substantiate their claim. The considerable representation of potentially polluting industry & govt. departments such as municipal corporations on the Boards raises questions about conflict of interest. There is little substantive discussion on air pollution control planning in Board meetings, which are largely procedural in nature.     Researchers from the University of Texas’ Southw Researchers from the University of Texas’ Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, and TransMedics, Andover, Massachusetts, believe there is a small-growing subset of transplanted livers. These livers are cumulatively more than a hundred years old. The researchers studied these livers so that they could identify the characteristics that determine why these organs are tough and lead the way to consider the potential expanse in the use of older liver donors. Furthermore, the research team at the University of Texas presented their findings at the Scientific Forum of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress 2022. As a part of their research, they used the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) STAR data to identify the cumulative age of livers. This assessment was requested & funded by EC(European Commission). Over the past several years, Kimiko Hirata’ s grassroots company led to the cancellation of13 coal power plants (7GW or7030 MW) in Japan. These coal plants would have released more than 1.6 billion tons of CO2 over their lifetime. The impact of Hirata’s activities is the equivalent of 7.5 million passenger cars off the roadways every year for 40 years.
