Rare Sihek Chick Hatches in Cincinnati Zoo, Population Inches Up in Ongoing Recovery Plan
A tiny, colorful bird chick with an enormous conservation impact has just hatched at the Cincinnati Zoo. The first Sihek (Guam Kingfisher) chick of 2025 represents a crucial step in saving a species that no longer exists in the wild. “Every chick is vital to the future of this species, and we’re hoping that this is the first of many hatchings to come this year,” said Cincinnati Zoo senior aviculturist Aimee Owen.
