LA's Mobility Wallet Phase II: $1.8M in Transit Subsidies for 2,000 Low-Income Residents

The Mobility Wallet program addresses the systemic barriers to safe, convenient, and reliable transportation for low-income Angelenos.

Phase I provided 1,000 low-income residents in South LA with a $150/month prepaid debit card for transportation from May 2023 to April 2024.

Phase I participants spent over $1.36 million on transportation services, including bus, rail, rideshare, micromobility, and bike shops.

Phase II will add 1,000 new low-income residents in South LA and 1,000 across LA County, providing each with a $900 debit card in the fall and a $900 refill six months later.

Applications for Phase II are open until August, offering eligible residents up to $1,800 in public or private transportation.

Eligibility for Phase II requires participants to be 18 years or older, a resident of Los Angeles County, and have an income at or below specified thresholds based on household size.

The Mobility Wallet is part of a $30 million Universal Basic Mobility pilot program launched by the City of LA in 2021.
