Classic Land Rover Defenders get an electric makeover with innovative in-wheel motors producing a whopping 483 horsepower – nearly triple what most original Defenders had.

Unlike conventional EV conversions, Bedeo's system places motors directly inside the wheel hubs, eliminating the need for a central motor, gearbox, and drivetrain.

This space-saving approach maintains the original Defender's weight distribution while freeing up valuable interior room that would typically be filled with drivetrain components.

The 75 kWh battery delivers 153 miles of range – enough for most adventures – and can recharge in just 90 minutes with optional 50 kW fast charging.

Each wheel has its own dedicated motor, allowing for precise individual control that could make these electrified Defenders even more capable off-road than their diesel predecessors.

The most noticeable difference? Silence – gone is the familiar diesel clatter, replaced by whisper-quiet operation that makes conversation easier and creates a more refined experience.

Iowa-based Monarch Defender will handle the delivery, installation, and customer experience when these electric conversions hit the American market in July 2025.

What's the cost for this blend of classic styling and cutting-edge tech? Expect prices around $300,000, firmly positioning these conversions in the luxury market.

Engineers addressed concerns about added wheel weight (35kg per corner) by ensuring the overall mass ratio stays within acceptable limits for good handling and ride quality.

The partnership represents just the beginning of Bedeo's "Reborn Electric: Icons" program, which aims to bring in-wheel motor technology to other classic vehicles beyond the Defender.
