32,000 Cyclists Set for NYC’s 40-Mile TD Bike Tour May 4

NYC streets will clear for 32,000 cyclists during the 47th annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour on Sunday, May 4, creating a rare 40-mile car-free route through all five boroughs.

The massive cycling event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. from Lower Manhattan, with riders pedaling north to the Bronx, back through Manhattan, into Queens and Brooklyn, and finishing in Staten Island.

Major traffic changes include closing the Verrazzano Bridge's Staten Island-bound lower level from midnight until 7 p.m., along with partial closures of the RFK Bridge and Hugh L. Carey Tunnel.

Metro-North and LIRR trains will suspend bicycle restrictions for the day, while specific subway stations have been designated as bike-friendly for participants traveling to the start line.

Bike New York, the tour organizer, uses funds raised to provide free cycling education programs, teaching over 20,000 kids and adults bike safety skills in 2022 alone.

USA Today recently ranked the TD Five Boro Bike Tour as the top road cycling event in the country, drawing riders of all skill levels and spectators who line the route to cheer them on.

Beyond supporting Bike New York's programs, the tour serves as a fundraising platform for other organizations like Ronald McDonald House and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
