Swedish Tycoon Johan Eliasch Bought 400,000 Acres Of Amazon Forest To Preserve It

Johan Eliasch, Swedish-born tycoon, had purchased 400,000 acres of the Amazonian rainforest.

After buying it, he said, to save it, to conserve its plants and wildlife &, by preserving old-growth forest, to do his contribution towards climate change.

The land, in Amazon, belonged to a logging company, Gethal Amazonas,

The company  obviously were reducing the forest cover. “I closed the forestry operation down and laid off 1,000 people.” mentioned Johan.

Brazil recorded the most deforestation ever in the month of January according to government data. Deforestation in Brazil’s Amazon totalled 430 square kilometers (166 square miles) from January 2022.

Luciana Gatti at Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research that in 5 years Amazon will reach a point of no return.

As Eliasch says “The Amazon is the lung on the world”, he will also let scientists use his land to explore and search for undiscovered species.

Johan’s efforts are an example for all the rich and powerful around the globe.
